As the Corona restrictions are slowly being released, we have good hope that the Young Dogs Day can be held at September 6th. ? Of course, all depends on the Corona developments, but with the KC Pampus we are creating a detailed plan to organise our day, following all rules of the government. Anyone can register dogs born between 30-11 and 2018 and 29-11-2019.
It is also possible to register for the inventarisations.
For further information please check the Young Dogs Day page.
The board is pleased to announce that we recruited a new FAC member. Ms. Anneke de Kruif will take over the FAC secretary position of Ms. Miranda Nijland. Miranda steps down from the FAC and will be part of the new committee Population Policy, together with Ms. Marjolein Flobbe. Anneke owns two Schapendoezen, one of them is a studdog. Anneke is an experienced administrator. We wish her a warm welcome and lots of succes in her new job.
The Association the Dutch Schapendoes is frequently asked about several available DNA tests at different laboratories. Genetic tests for pets, more and more are launched every day. Hundreds of thousands of pets are tested by their pets, out of love and concern for their pet.
However, many of these tests are breed specific, and are offered for use in all breeds. Many of these tests are based on small studies with limited numeric proof, the correctness is often not validated. There is also no validation that the tests are guaranteed and applicable for all dogbreeds.
Many vets have limited knowlegde about these tests and cannot inform concerned owners on correct use. That is logical, a vet is not a genetic expert. But it is therefore of great concern that these tests are so popular in use.
The board and the breeding committee of the VNS agree with the statement of the Scientific Committee of the Nordic Kennel Union (NKU/VK). They issued clear information on DNA testing and we would like to publish their statement here.
